Lent is a season when the church traditionally engages in increased spiritual practices and reflection. Disciplines of Bible reading, prayer, confession, service, and charity mark our lives during this season.
During Lent we’ll continue with our exploration of Jesus with a sermon series called Jesus Is, focusing on the “I am” statements of Jesus found in the Gospel of John.
February 18 – Jesus is the Bread of Life, John 6:35-59
February 25 – Jesus is the Light of the World, John 8:12-20
March 4 – Jesus is the Gate, John 10:1-10
March 11 – Jesus is the Good Shepherd, John 10:11-21
March 18 – Jesus is the Vine, John 15:1-8
Lent begins with Ash Wednesday, February 14. Ash Wednesday Worship at 7pm, with drop-in Imposition of Ashes and Prayer from 6:30am-8:00am, and also at Wednesday Morning Bible Study at 9:30am.
During Christian Learning Hour we’ll be walking through the steps and stories of the Passion of our Lord Jesus, in preparation for a Passion Play to be shared in worship on Palm Sunday, March 25.
Jesus 101, exploring some of the essential qualities of Jesus and his kingdom. Jesus Is leads us into the holiest time of year for Christians – Jesus’ Passion during Holy Week (Palm Sunday, March 25; Good Friday, March 30), and Jesus’ Resurrection on Easter Sunday (April 1 – no fooling!).
Spend this season exploring who Jesus Is before we gather at the foot of the cross on Good Friday and the opening to the empty grave on Easter Sunday to gaze upon the fullness of his glory.
